Fall retreat news and sweater progress

Good morning and happy Saturday! Yes, Saturday. I know what day it is today. That is not necessarily true for much of the last month or so, especially week/work days. They are mostly all a blur.

Today is a special Saturday too. Registration for the third North East Men’s Fall Knitting Retreat opens this morning at 10:00 AM. It is hard not to be nervous about this event considering the Covid-19 pandemic required us to cancel the spring retreat which should be taking place next weekend. Will things be able to return to “normal” enough by then for folks to travel from around the country to congregate in upstate New York for a weekend of fibery fun? Will the Adirondack Wool and Arts even take place? A number of spring and even early summer fiber festivals have already been cancelled. Will the threat of Covid-19 have subsided enough by then? I certainly hope so, because a lot of us are already really bummed about not being able to gather next weekend for the spring retreat.

On the upside, I have more time to finish the sweater that I was hoping to have done for show and tell at the spring retreat. I slowed down a bit on this project when the cancellation of the spring retreat was announced. The front and back pieces are complete and I am about halfway through the sleeves.

I knit the sleeves two at a time on a circular needle to help ensure that they come out the same. While I could do this with the front and back pieces too, it would become quite unwieldy as those pieces are much bigger, and the differences in how they are worked for the neck would only make it more unwieldy. Still, I am very pleased with how this project is progressing.

We have been making good use of our time at home on other projects too. Michael has been busy giving rooms a fresh coat of paint, including our bedroom which has never been painted in the 18 years we have lived here. We were rather bold with our color choice for this room, and so far it is absolutely perfect. I am sure I will love it even more as we begin to reassemble the room and put stuff back up on the walls and windows.

Speaking of bold color choices…

Yeah, it’s bold. I love it. Luckily, I work in an office where this shouldn’t be an issue, which is good because as far as I know, and unless the governor extends the NY Pause directives, we may be returning to the office in some capacity next week.

That’s all for today. We have a necessary trip to Lowe’s to make later today for paint and some other items for the bedroom project, but that will have to wait until after 10:00 AM. I need to make sure the opening of registration for the fall retreat goes smoothly.

Have a great weekend!
