It’s been one week since…

If the song is now stuck in your head then this blog post is already a success.

It’s been one week since I deactivated my Facebook account and deleted the app from my phone and my tablet. I don’t miss it. Sure, I miss the puppy pictures and the beautiful fiber work and the other bits of their lives that my friends share. Michael still shows me a lot of stuff from mutual friends that he sees in his account so I do at least still see those puppy pics.

I don’t miss the rest though. I don’t miss the ads that seem a little too intrusively targeted. I don’t miss the friend requests from sketchy profiles. I don’t miss how people shamelessly use Facebook as a dating/hookup app. I don’t miss the fighting I’ve been seeing amongst friends on politically oriented posts

This has been a peaceful week. Productive, too. I am almost finished with the front piece of the sweater I am working on. The garage is on its way to being clean and the basement is on its way to being organized. I have a great wheel project that I’d like to get underway soon too, when it is more convenient to use the garage.

It’s been several weeks since we’ve been social distancing at home and while I am lucky to be able to work from home, I don’t like doing it. The setup in my craft room for my job is easily broken down at the end of my work day if I want that space back for the evening, and that does happen a couple of times a week. My craft room is also my practice room, and my violin lessons are done via an app, so I need the space to allow my teacher to see me as I play. My work setup is also broken down for the weekend every Friday, but since the table is out so much now, I think my sewing machine needs to start spending a lot more time on it when my laptop isn’t.

The good thing about being home every day is spending more time with the dogs. The bad thing about being home every day is spending so much time with the dogs. People with human children can have all the Take Our Kids to Work days you want. If we had a Take Our Dogs to Work day I would get fired. I would at least be forever forbidden to participate because if I did I would likely get fired. There should never ever be a Take Our Dogs To Work day ever. I can’t wait until I have an office to go back to. I love my dogs dearly but we need some space!

Overall, we are doing just fine. I make light of our “problems” but I know that so many have it worse. We’ve been doing what we can to help and that’s been staying the fuck home as much as practicable. It isn’t easy, but we haven’t killed each other yet so that’s really good. I hope you are doing as best you can through all this too It’s really all we can do.

I’ll have more soon about some of the projects I have been working on.
