Wrapping it all up

Good evening and happy Autumn! Summer is officially over and I am ready to say goodbye to it. The pool has been closed for a couple of weeks now. It got used a lot this season. We spent a lot of time in the back yard, most of it watching our newest addition, Jade, grow from the cute, floppy, bitey, puppy we brought home in June to the absolutely gorgeous young girl she is today.

The past three months sometimes seems like a blur. It wasn’t all sunshine and puppy cuteness. Pharaoh hound puppies are in a class all their own when it comes to physical and mental activity levels. We knew what we were getting ourselves into and we got everything we expected with Jade and then some. But it has all been absolutely worth it.

Throughout the summer the final pieces to the second North Easr Men’s Fall Knitting Retreat fell into place and the retreat begins on Thursday. This weekend I put the final touches on the pile of things to go with me. I still have to pick a knitting project to start at the retreat, and block the scarf I finished for shownand tell on Friday.

I’m ready for this retreat. I have managed to knit one thing this summer while raising a puppy. That’s a good sign, and I’m looking forward to doing more this fall and winter. We factor Jade’s need for entertainment into pretty much everything we do from preparing meals to cleaning the house.

Local weather forecasts typically cannot be trusted more than three days out, but barring and major sudden changes, the extended forecast for the weekend looks great. Though maybe not so much for the Adirondack Wool and Arts Festival on Saturday. Wool typically doesn’t sell well in warm weather. I hope that isn’t the case this weekend and that all the vendors do well.

Still, last gasps of summer bring warm mild days but the air has s coolness that make the nights perfect for snuggling under a blanket with a dog. I’m off to bed now. Enjoy your week!

  1. Jade is just fantastically beautiful…but you knew that.

As for the upcoming retreat, I am so stoked and the most disorganized and ill-prepared I’ve ever been this close to the start of one. But fortunately, the community of men that this event attracts is awesome and makes up for any lack of planning on my part!

    Can’t wait to see you.
