Some men’s knitting retreat news to share

Good morning and happy Saturday! Registration for the first Northeast Fall Men’s Knitting Retreat opens next Saturday at 10:00 AM. At that time, an email notification will be sent to all of the guys signed up for the retreat email list with a link to the registration page. Similar notifications will be posted at the same time on the Facebook and Ravelry groups for the retreat. The registration registration and checkout process is easy. The retreat will take place September 20th to the 23rd. For more information or to sign up to check out www.mensknittingretreat.com .

There is a change to the retreat scholarships which is the other news I have to share. Each regional retreat receives donations that allow it to offer a limited number of slots, maybe one or two, to someone at no charge. Recipients were nominated by email and selected usually by the retreat organizers. Not very much has changed about that. What has changed is that the Millard Fontenot Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established to manage all of that for all of the retreats.

First, please read about Millard and why this fund was created. Please read QueerJoe’s blog post Honoring Millard too.

Donations can still be made to support individual retreats, and there is an option to donate to the general fund to support all of the regional men’s knitting retreats. Until now, donations to support the retreat scholarships have not been tax deductible. The Millard Fontenot Memorial Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) so your donation should be tax deductible.

I never had the opportunity to meet Millard. I did meet Kerry at the fall retreat in Seattle that I attended in 2014. We have been online friends for years going back to the days before Facebook was a thing at MenWhoKnit.com . I’m honored to be a part (a small part, really) of helping Kerry, Joe Wilcox, and several other retreat organizers create this scholarship fund. Please help us in continuing to honor Millard by making a donation.

That’s all I have for you this morning. I am taking advantage of this beautiful day we are about to have and going for a hike at the Plotterkill Preserve with my brother and some friends. Have a great weekend!
