Doing anything fun this weekend?
This weekend is the 25th Annual Washington County Fiber Tour! You can visit great local farms that raise, sheep, alpacas, llamas, angora goats, and angora rabbits, learn more about the animals and how they are raised, see shearing demonstrations, spinning and weaving demonstrations, and treat yourself to some yarn or fiber (or even a finished garment or blanket) made from locally raised animals.
Battenkill Fibers will be open both days during the tour with specials on processing orders, and more local yarn and fiber for sale. The mill will also have tours of their facility, and if you have never been on a tour of the mill, I highly recommend it. The journey from raw wool to finished yarn is fascinating and no matter how many times I have done it before, I will always take the tour when the opportunity comes up.
I am going to try and visit a few farms on Saturday this year. I might possibly add another fleece to the Romney fleece which was freshly shorn and purchased at Ensign Brook Farm during last year’s tour.
That’s it for now. Have a great rest of the week, and maybe I will see you at one of the farms on the tour this weekend.
